The museum’s desire to reflect its advancing mission from a community art center to a museum that services the wider region of Northern Indiana created the impetus for a new name in 2007 – The South Bend Museum of Art.

The new identity proposal included capitalizing on the acronym created by the new name: SBMA, for which Bodnar and her student team from the University of Notre Dame created a word/color system highlighting the museum’s key offerings:

See = exhibitions
Belong = membership and events
Make = art classes

Bodnar Design and her students also conceived of and advertised the event at which the new identity was unveiled.
